A Remembrance Service was held on Wednesday 15th August at the Civic Centre, Motherwell, to commemorate VJ Day, also known as Far East Prisoner of War Day.
The Service was opened by Councillor Jean Jones, Provost of North Lanarkshire, who in her words of welcome referred to the suffering of the many men and woman who had been held prisoner by the Japanese in the Far East during WW2.
The theme was continued by Campbell Thomson of the Lanarkshire Yeomanry Group who told of the many hell camps situated throughout the Far East - in Taiwan, Thailand, Borneo, French Indo China and Japan.
