Reality of War

Memories live on when one grows old
The sadness of war, its brutalities unfold
Young men who knew nothing of war
Had no premonition of what they were in for
So many of them, never to return
Those that did had much to learn
Of broken bodies slow to heal
Never again can life be real
The stark reality of enemy intent
They truly knew what war had meant
